2001

The Naked Lounge Tea and Coffeehouse was the third of five cafes opened by Christopher Pendarvis. Established in June 2001, The Naked Lounge is still serving up caffeine 18 hours a day 365 days a year at 118 W. 2nd Street in downtown Chico. Less than a year after the Chico location opened Christopher began the inception of plans to open a second lounge 90 miles south in the state capitol, Sacramento.

2002

Construction on The Naked Lounge Sacramento broke ground in December of 2001 and the cafe opened its doors in February of 2002 in a historic Victorian building at 1500 Q Street in the centrally located neighborhood of Mid-Town.

2003

After operating the two Naked Lounge locations successfully for two years, Chris was eager to expand his scope of production to include roasting his own coffee, thus began the construction of Naked Coffee Roasting.

Naked Coffee Roasting began full-scale production and delivery operations in January of 2004 out of its renovated 2500 square foot warehouse in Chico. The development of Naked Coffee Roasting allowed the company to completely vertically integrate supply lines as well as centralize administrative offices.

Naked Coffee Roasting was initially developed to service only the retail needs of the two existing Naked lounge locations as well as Chris' 3500 sq/ft breakfast restaurant, Sin of Cortez, also located in Chico. Today, Naked Coffee Roasting has expanded to accommodate a demand for several wholesale accounts with a delivery van on the road three days a week delivering everything from whole bean coffees to dairy, paper products, and chocolates.

2004

Construction on the newest location, Tupelo Coffeehouse and Roasting Company, began in June 2004. The 2000 Sq/Ft location opened its doors in October of 2004. Tupelo is a full service tea and coffeehouse equipped with a Probat L-5 coffee roaster as a dining room centerpiece. Tupelo is centrally located in urban Sacramento between Sacramento State University and downtown/mid-town areas near the corner of 56th and H streets at 5700 Elvas Street.

Today

The Naked Lounge is a small company operating three retail locations and a wholesale distribution center in Northern California with excellence. The Naked Lounge continues to serve up great coffee combined with great service in an independent environment with involved ownership.

It hasn't been an easy road, all of the enterprises were self financed using only established cash flow from existing businesses. All contracting and construction work has been accomplished and completed by the owner. The Naked Lounge has grown more than 550% since inception! This basic "stay debt free" and "contract the work yourself" attitude has earned the business a chance at healthy sustainability and future of growth.
